What Junior Achievement Means to an Executive Who Volunteers

December 3, 2012

Everybody gets it: giving back is good, especially when it comes to investing in the education of our children. Everyone is busy, particularly if you are running a company and trying to squeeze in a a little free time for yourself and your family.

DeAnn Hargis, Managing Director, Global Quality, Compliance and CSR at Alcatel-Lucent, knows its worth her time. Its obvious that the JA programs make an impression on the students….and on the volunteer.

“I’ve led a Junior Achievement class for the past 9 years working with kids from Kindergarten to 5th grade. It is amazing the basic free enterprise concepts that children grasp and remember from year to year: resources, capital, how to be an entrepreneur. When I share this experience with my global colleagues they are amazed that in the US we start teaching free enterprise at such a young age.”

This is why the Council is supporting Junior Achievement and its mission to educate schoolchildren in financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness.

Be a part of it by joining the Atlanta CEO Council at a special Holiday Event, December 3. This event is open to the community. Register and donate here.
